Future of Missions

Years ago missions in America changed directions, and rightly so.  An emphasis was place on working with national Pastors.  Organizations like Gospel for Asia began with the premise that the American church's role was to equip and support national Pastors.  The idea is that nationals already know the language and culture of the people and are more accepted because of this.  In addition the cost of supporting a national is less than an American.
Also, during this time a shift of focus occurred and missions began to focus on the countries in the 10/40 window, like India and the Middle East.  Places like Latin America are considered to be reached, however, we are finding that the poorest people have fallen through the cracks in countries like Brazil and Paraguay.  They are not reached and they are not being reached currently.  The small evangelical church in these countries often has no vision for dealing with the overwhelming problem of reaching the desperately poor.
I believe the next phase in American missions, in countries where there is an established church, will be one of equipping the church to grow and expand.  Living Bread Ministries' focus is on equipping the church to reach the poorest segment of the population who are often neglected.  This is why we have established LBM Brazil.  We want to build a church planting ministry in Brazil supported by the Brazilian church.  To learn more about this vision please click the link below to read our current newsletter.
