Monday - June 17

Yesterday (Monday) was a good day on the trip.  In the morning I met with the area coordinator of the IMB to discuss how we might be able to partner in ministry.  He shared with me how they recently did a research study and found that only 0.3% of people in metropolitan Porto Alegre are evangelical.  This varied with the government statistics because the government includes the cults and other statistical errors.  There is a lot to be done in this region of Brazil.

After lunch we went to Vila Nova and prepared the food kits for the evening service and cooked soup to serve after the service.  Soup was a good choice because it was freezing.  We had a good service, Terri shared her testimony and later Dan shared his story and presented the Gospel.  It was a good time and the people could appreciate that although they come from very different worlds his story was like theirs in a lot of ways.  Many seeds were planted and we know that in the future the Lord will harvest.

After the service we distributed 40 food kits and fed everyone attending.  Many of the children ate 3 or 4 bowls of soup and lots of bread and juice.  As Ed pointed out it is good to see the whole Gospel being presented.  Not only proclaiming the truth but ministering to the needs of people for the glory of God.  I am not sure how many bowls of soup we served but the sanctuary was full so we had at least  75 to 80 people present and many of them had multiple servings.

In the end they left having heard the Gospel preached and experiencing the love of Christ by being served a hot meal on a very clod night.  This is exactly what LBM is all about.  Planting churches that proclaim the whole Gospel to the poor throughout Latin America.
