Friday 6/20/08 - Visitation and Green Light for Jesus
The day started like our previous ones. We started with prayer and devotion. We arrived at Pastor Claudio's Church in Vila Cefer. We split into two groups for visitation. The group I was with went to three homes. The first was a lady that is not a Christian, but occasionally goes to Pastor Claudio's Church. She was having a hard time dealing with the choices she needed to make. Her family members are not believers and are making it hard for her. The second was a lady that had surgery and needed to make a decision to accept Christ. She was with her third man, not married, but thought she couldn't come to church because she was not married. The next man was in his late 80's. He had lost his wife and was having problems with his vision. He said he prayed to Jesus every day for many things. But one question he didn't answer yes to was if he would go to heaven when he died. He didn't know for sure. This opened the door for us to ask him if he had ever asked Jesus to save his soul. He said "no". Jason and Pastor Claudio led him to the Lord. What a praise!
Later that night, we went with Pastor Claudio to do what his Church calls "Green Light for Jesus". They go out every Friday night to share Christ and to give them something to eat. We fixed sandwiches and gave them something to drink (after sharing Christ with them). The awesome thing is that the Church has approximately 50 members, 16 of them were doing this with their Pastor. God's hand went before us. We were able to have four people to accept Christ. What a praise! These people live on the street and have no home. The one that broke our heart, especially Terri's, was a woman that crawled out from under a bridge. She has two children, 3 and 6 years old. It was in the 40's, with the wind blowing about 30 miles per hour. All she had to keep her warm was a stocking cap and a jacket that was obviously too large for her, and flip flops with very thin socks. After she accepted Christ, Terri took off her socks and gloves and gave them to her, along with her "travel" tissues. We had to go or Terri would have walked back barefooted and with no jacket. As you can tell, she was broken. Her heart was heavy for this lady. This by far, was the highlight of the week.
