Disaster In Haiti
Sept 3, 2008
Yesterday I received the email below from a missionary friend of mine working with people in Haiti. They have been devastated by the recent series of hurricanes. Personally this touches my heart, but even more so as I have a burden for this country. I hope that in the future the Lord will allow Living Bread Ministries to begin planting churches in Haiti. Until then we can pray for this specific need and respond as the Lord leads.
Three storms have left its mark on the Caribbean in less than a month claiming nearly 200 lives. Currently the remaining waters of Gustav and the rising waters of Hannah are up to 8 feet high in parts of Haiti.
CLF has five missionaries in Haiti and one in Jamaica and all have been severally affected by these storms. One missionary has been confined to the top floor of the orphanage as they wait out the rising flood waters of the storm while another ministry partner stayed on the roof of their house through the night watching the waters rise before escaping to higher ground.
Gonaives, a northern port city of nearly 200,000 people is where most of the damages are being seen. Previously hit by Hurricane Jeanne in 2004 leaving irreversible damage and claiming over 3000 lives and leaving 2500 people homeless, this poverty stricken city was still trying to rebuild. There are stranded orphans, no resources for food or water, the waters are washing away houses and carrying off cars, washing them into the ocean.
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!
We are committed to bringing food, clothing, medicine and supplies to simply help them survive. It is vital that we get food in there immediately to this already devastated area. Our missionaries are pleading for your help; will you please help us as we show them we care?
Your gift of $85 buys an 80 pound bag of rice and will feed 300 people and just $70 will buy a 60 pound bag of beans.
There are no relief organizations like FEMA or the Red Cross there to step in and help, it is up to us, can we count on you?
We are asking for your immediate help. Will you please send your best gift today? You can give online at www.christianlightfoundation.com under Emergency Relief or mail your gift of help to:
