Summer Camp 2009

April 1, 2009

It has taken me a little longer than I had hoped but I am finally posting an update on the group from Igreja Batista Viva that we sent to church camp.  It is written by Wanessa Magioli who was the adult leader for the group at camp.

Another year and, by God’s mercy, we were able to be a part of one more youth camp.  For most of the youth, this was their third time at camp, but we also had some new faces which is a blessing.  Our youth are united and the  group is growing, this year we had 15 campers.  The group is more mature and therefore enjoyed camp much more.

We arrived at camp and it was a blessing.  Right away a few things  caught my attention. The first was that the kids had an easier time making friends, talking with the youth from other churches, worshiping together, and enjoying the activities at camp.  I noticed this b/c during the first 2 years our youth were very shy, they felt they were different than the other kids, in knowledge of the Word as well as socially and this time neither was an issue.  The second aspect was when it was time to settle in the dorms, I noticed they were more prepared; they had better sheets, towels and clothing. In the previous years most did not have sheets or appropriate clothing for camp.

I give God all the glory for this, b/c they are, in a way, living a better quality of life and their homes are more stable financially.  Thank God that our church is a church that seeks to see its members grow in all aspects of their lives encouraging education and work.

The messages and the music at camp were great, we were trully touched by God and many reaffirmed their purpose with Christ.  One of the testimonies that caught my attention was Leonardo’s.  He went forward one day during one of the services.  He later said: “Wow, when I went forward I felt something so strong, I felt God so close to me that it felt as if His hands were on my shoulders.  God is spirit but He is so marvelous that He is able to be so close to us like this.  I will never forget this”.   These were his very words and I believe this is proof that God is powerful and ready to touch the lives of many who on those very days could have been anywhere, making wrong choices and distancing themselves from God.  But these youth made the decision to spend several days at camp seeking a true and deeper experience with Christ.

Praise the Lord for this and we are happy and thankful for once again having this opportunity.  We thank, from the bottom of our hearts those who gave this blessing to us.

What a wonderful report. I teared up reading Leonardo's testimony as it is such grace and mercy when the Lord reaches out to us in such a way. It is such a blessing to hear this report of the spiritual growth seen in these youth.
