New Outreach in Vila Safira

June 19, 2009

It is winter in southern Brazil and the temperatures are in the low 30's at night.  It is damp and for the people there it is very cold.  The church plant we began in Vila Safira is growing and we are trying to minister to the needs of the people in this community.  Pastor Jocelito has approached us with the desire to serve soup every Saturday after the Bible study.  This will minister to one of the biggest needs in the community which is food.

Some of the children who attend the Saturday Bible study and will benefit from the soup.

He has approached a local grocery store and they are willing to donate the ingredients for the soup.  We need to provide the equipment to prepare and serve it.  This type of ministry has proven to be very effective at our other church plants.  It effectively communicates the whole Gospel.  The church communicates the love and mercy of God in the Bible study and then follows that with a tangible demonstration of the very love and mercy they just proclaimed.  The Lord uses this to draw people to Himself, yet even if the Gospel is refused by individuals, the community as a whole sees the church demonstrating the love of Christ to hurting people.  That in itself is a powerful witness.

In order to make this new ministry a reality we need to raise the resources for the equipment.  We need an industrial stove, pots, utensils, bowls, etc.  The cost for all of this is $540.  This one time cost will allow the church in Vila Safira to begin feeding members and others in the community soup on a weekly basis.  If you or your church would like to help with this you can contact us at info@livingbread.org or click here to give.

Praise the Lord for providing the resources for us to begin this new ministry. We will be purchasing the equipment immediately and beginning to provide the soup after the weekly Bible study.
